Order Of the Tamil Vowels

Tamil language is a phonetic language. That is why it is still a very active language. The basic sound humans make has the taken the forms in Tamil vowels. If we take the English vowels as an example it is easy to learn the order of the Tamil vowels.

The letter “அ” is the first letter in Tamil vowels. Then comes is long vowel form “ஆ” . Next comes the short sound “இ” It is followed by the letter “ஈ” which is the representation of longer e sound. The short and long vowels of the sound “உ” and “எ” comes next. That is உ,ஊ, எ, ஏ.. We have to note that in English there is not letter representation of the sound “ay”. When the “அ”, “இ” sounds combine they make the long vowel “ஐ”. The long and short sound of “ஒ” comes next as “ஒ”and “ஓ. When the sound of “அ” and “உ” it make the long vowel sound ஓள.. Here also note that this sound does not have the letter representation in the English language.

Ayudham is always learnt with the vowels traditionally.
