தமிழ் மொழியின் சிறப்பு ஒரு பொருளைக் கூற சில சமயங்களில் ஓர் எழுத்தேப் போதுமானது. அஃதாவது எழுத்தின் வரிவடிவம் அந்த எழுத்தை மட்டும் அடையாளம் காட்டாது ஒரு சொல்லாகவும் இருக்கிறது. அனைவருக்கும் தெரிந்த அப்படிப் பட்ட சொற்கள் சில கை, தீ, பூ ஆகியவை. ஆனால் அவை எல்லாம் உயிர் மெய் எழுத்துக்கள். நாம் இதுவரை உயிர் எழுத்துக்களையும் மெய் எழுத்துக்களையும் மட்டுமே கற்றுள்ளோம். நம் மொழிக்கே உயிராகச் செயயல்படும் உயிரெழுத்துக்கள் சொற்களாக செயல் பட்டிருக்கின்றனவா என்று அகராதிகளை ஆராய்ந்துப் பார்த்ததில் மன்னிரெண்டு உயிரெழுத்துக்களில் “ஓள” என்ற உயிரெழுத்தைத் தவிர மற்ற எல்லா உயிரெழுத்துக்களும் ஆய்த எழுத்தும் செய்யுள்களில் சொற்களாகப் பொருள் கொடுத்து நிற்கின்றன.

- ஊ= permeate and also flesh or meat
- எ= உவர் நிலம், Soil with high ph
- ஏ= who, abundance, ஐ= god or king, or beauty, minute, phlegm
- ஒ=equal, conform, agree ,consent
- ஓ= flood gate ஒள=
- ஃ=solitariness.
