Tamil vowels are the basic unit of Tamil language. There are twelve vowels. They are
“ah” as in about (அ)
“aa” as in paw (ஆ)
“ea” as in ea (இ)
ee as in eel (ஈ)
wu as in wool. (உ)
ooh as in too (ஊ)
eh as in echo. (எ)
ay as in hay (ஏ)
ie as in pie (ஐ)
oh as in toe (ஒ)
ooh as in ohh (ஓ)
ow as in owl (ஒள)
முதல் எழுத்துக்கள்:Main Letters
உயிரெழுத்துக்கள் பிற எழுத்துக்களின் உதவி இல்லாமல் தானாகவே இயங்கும். மற்ற எழுத்துக்களுக்கு உயிர் கொடுத்து அவை இயங்க காரணமாக இருக்கிறது. அதனால் உயிரெழுத்துக்கள் முதல் எழுத்துக்கள் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றன.
They can operate with out the support of other letters. They give life to the other Tamil letters and operates them. So they are also called main or the first letters.
ஒலியளவு:Syllable
தங்கள் ஒலியை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு உயிர் எழுத்துக்கள் குறில் நெடில் என்றுப் பிரிக்கப்படுகிறது. ஒரு மாத்திரை அல்லது ஒரு வினாடி அளவே ஒலிக்கும் எழுத்துக்கள் குறில் என்று அழைக்கப்படும். அ,இ,உ,எ,ஒ குறில் எழுத்துக்கள் ஆகும். இரண்டு மாத்திரைகள் அல்லது இரண்டு வினாடிகள் நேரம் ஒலிக்கும் எழுத்துக்கள் நெடில் ஆகும்.ஆ,ஈ,ஊ,ஓ,ஓள ஆகியவை நெடில் எழுத்துக்கள் ஆகும்.
The vowels can be divided based on their sound too, The short sound vowels are called kurril. The duration of the syllable is one second.அ, இ, உ, எ, ஒ are kurril. The long sounding letters are called nedil. The duration of the syllable is two seconds.ஆ, ஈ, ஊ, ஏ,ஐ, ஓ, ஒள are neddill.

உயிர் எழுத்துக்கள் பிறக்கும் இடம் ஒலி யமைப்பு, ஒலியளவு பொருள் இவற்றைக் கொண்டு இன எழுத்துக்களாகவும் கருதப்படும். பொருளால், ஒலியால், இடத்தால் ஒத்திருப்பவை:

The vowels are paired with each other. the vowels are pairs because they look and sound the same, they can also mean similar thing.They then take the beginning of the word. These vowels are also paired based on their sound and their place in the word. In conclusion the vowels takes the main stage in the Tamil language. They act as a foundation for the language with their sound
